DR. SUSAN JEWELL: Hello. My name is Dr. Susan
Jewell and on behalf of Expert Village, I’m going to talk to you about how to treat fevers.
Now in this clip, we’re going to talk about one of the symptoms of fevers is that you
get–you are more prone to getting dehydration. So, replenishing your body and hydrating your
body is a very important thing to do when you’re having illness and you have fever because
all the sweating, perspiration, and the vomiting, and diarrhea is going to put your body at
risk for losing a lot of nutrients and fluids. So, water is the number one; what we recommend,
of course, is to drink lots of water if you can when you’re going through a fever and
high temperatures, and that would help to keep maintain your body hydrated because dehydration
is going to cause more–aggravate the symptoms, and cause the symptoms to last even longer.
So, drinks lots of water when you have fevers. And also, to replenish the nutrients and the
minerals that are caused by fevers, whether through perspiration, from nausea and vomiting,
and diarrhea, it’s good to drink other beverages like fruit juice, if you can handle it, fruit
juices, orange juice, freshly squeezed juices as well throughout the time that you are suffering
from the high temperature and the fevers. And it’s recommended not to drink alcohol,
of course, ’cause that would, well, you probably won’t be able to keep alcohol when you’re
suffering from high temperatures, but to–not to drink any alcohol or caffeine containing
beverages during this period of time.
