I’m Shelby Cullinan with today’s health news.
A new temporary tattoo could monitor your blood sugar — without the pain of needles.
Scientists at the University of California, San Diego, have developed a blood sugar sensor
that is small, flexible and printed on tattoo paper. In this study, researchers put the
tattoo sensor on patients and measured their blood sugar levels after a carb-heavy meal.
The tattoo monitor kept track of glucose levels as effectively as the traditional blood glucose
monitor. The new device could be a relief to many diabetes patients. The research team
also noted that this new device could have other uses in the future. It could potentially
detect blood alcohol levels or measure how well a medication is working.
