Male Coughing ….
(relaxing music) – [Spokesperson] Pregnant
women are a very high priority group for influenza immunisation. Influenza immunisation is
part of good pregnancy care. If a pregnant woman catches influenza, she risks her pregnancy
and the life of her baby. Influenza causes more
hospitalizations and deaths in babies than whooping cough. – You should be immunised
against influenza each time you fall pregnant no
matter what time of the year. And it’s never too late to have it. Influenza immunisation
in pregnancy is safe and gives over 60% protection to babies. – [Spokesperson] If you’re
pregnant, be immunised.
Influenza is a viral infection that primarily
affects the respiratory system, and is generally seen in the fall and winter. It can be especially
dangerous in infants because their immune systems are still immature. They can get their
first flu vaccine when they’re six months old. Call your pediatrician if your baby shows
these signs of the flu: sudden fever; unusual sleepiness; decreased appetite; dry, hacking
cough; chills and body shakes; fussiness; stuffy or runny nose. Your doctor may give
your baby an antiviral medicine to fight off the flu. The earlier you start it, the better
it works. So, call your doctor as soon as you notice symptoms. Pain relievers like infants’
acetaminophen and ibuprofen for babies over six months old can bring down her fever and
make her feel better. But for any child younger than three months, call your doctor before
giving any medication for fever. Make sure she gets plenty to drink. If she won’t feed
or seems to be having fewer wet diapers than normal, visit the doctor.

he’s just so miserable. I don’t know what to do, he’s gotten worse since midnight. He’s so hot to touch and he’s having trouble breathing. (crying) – [Narrator] Flu can

Baby Fever Treatment Baby Fever Treatment
The most important thing if you find yourself
with a fever in pregnancy is to get rid of the fever. If your temperature is 100.4 or
higher, you should take Tylenol and make sure it brings your fever down. If Tylenol is not
helping with the fever, then you definitely need to call your doctor. Fever for a short
period of time isn’t gonna be anything problematic, but fever for a prolonged period of time can
have neurologic effects on the baby. It’s sort of the equivalent of sitting in a hot
tub, which will raise your core temperature and also not be good for the baby. Some of
the possible causes for the fever could include a simple viral infection for which Tylenol
should be sufficient and it can also include things like the flu. It can include a stomach
bug. It can include pneumonia, appendicitis. For most of these things, Tylenol won’t be
sufficient. So, I would say if Tylenol is not bringing your fever down, then you should
call your doctor.
