Hey, I think this is a great video but I don't know how much sugar reduction I can do because I am recovering from an eating disorder. I know it's not your channel focus but do you think you could do a video on healthy eating (eg reducing salt/sugar) in regards to dieting mindset and how not to be restrictive or obsessive because I know that is a very common struggle, even for people who have never struggled with an eating disorder. Thanks!

Just in time! I've been on a sugar detox for 2 weeks now and my cravings are decreasing day by day. When I treat myself with a fruit once in a while, it tastes incredibly sweet!

Every day is some vegan become ex vegan. Becouse this vegan diet is toxic *( trully toxic from antinutriens from plants ..but vegans even do not know that exist i think)and unnatural and unhealthy *( with full of suppliments which even do not absorbe proprietlly in human body, powders and many fake meats*( this vegan food full of chemicals and you vegans reproduce a meat *( burgers, eggs, fake vegan cheese..), and than you say that you can not have a meat im your plate ..and you do a reproduction of it!

    Wake up alrady!
A lot of vegan influencers every day gone ex vegan…becouse they feel shi*** on this diet! Becouse do not serve to humans! Indeed!
Also you have a lot of health issues and do not see that your body is out of storage of everything*( fats, cholesterol, minerals, vits…), and you are in deficit! Wake up. And eat some healing food; animal product !
    It is true.
Fruits are full of sugars….plants are water, fiber, small amount of vits which you even do not absorbe corectlly becouse you eat 300% more fiber per day more than will be healthy. Wake up !
Veganism is brainwashing push to destroy your helth.and this is it.
And today raw aligment say that she is ex vegan…see…

    Wake up!

Number 10: Time – It really is true. I used to crave sweet snacks a lot, but since I decreased my sugar intake and switched to mostly natural, unprocessed sugar sources, I slowly stopped wanting sugary snacks at all. I usually could just go for an apple. Last weekend, when I accepted a glass of cola from my mother-in-law, the taste of it made me sick. When you give your body what it needs an time to adjust, a healthy diet will become second nature.

    Hi Sadia,

This was a great video! This always makes me wonder if eating fibre along with an "unhealthy" sugar-rich food would make it healthier. For example, I love chocolate cake, and I always think that maybe if I eat it right after a large healthy meal full of fibre will make it not so bad! (Especially if I make it myself and know exactly what ingredients are in it). In theory, it shouldn't cause the blood sugar spike when my body also has the rest of the meal to digest. What is your opinion on this?

P.S. I'm a medical student (also Canadian!) and I love all your videos. I am very interested in nutrition and I believe it's very important for doctors to have a really solid knowledge of nutrition which I definitely don't think we spent enough time on in med school. To supplement this, I do my own research (from peer-reviewed journals, literature reviews, etc, it's important to look at reliable sources of research!) but videos like yours really help as well, from dieticians and doctors who have done a lot more comprehensive research than me! I knew most of what was in this video, but it definitely helps to have a dietician back it up and assure me I'm telling patients the right things, thank you! I'm going to share this with my pharmacist husband 🙂

  • Reply Nevhr May 20, 2019 at 12:12 pm

What about honey, I always thought that honey it's just like agave and other types of natural sweeteners, because our body process it the same way, even though honey tends to have much more health benefits than the others, I don't know.
    What do you think?

  • Reply Sabrina Alvarado May 20, 2019 at 8:52 pm

Hi Sadia! I just realized how much sugar I have been eating the past few days, and I was wondering if you could recommend to me a good added sugar free or low sugar plant-based yogurt and a brand of chocolate chips that are lower in sugar? Chocolate chips are one of the ways I can trick myself into eating mostly whole-foods dishes like oatmeal and banana-oat "pancakes", etc., when I really want to eat nothing nutritious. Thank you 🙂

  • Reply Huyền Lê May 22, 2019 at 5:04 am

Thank you! This is very helpful. I recently develop a fear of diabetes because my dad has it, and I've been trying out artificial sweeteners but they don't really work in baking recipes so I have a lot of questions about whether I should try buying coconut sugar or subtitute with honey once in awhile. A sweetener that you use frequently that we don't have in our country is dates, so that's unfortunate =))

The effect on our teeth is also a big issue that we all need to think about with regards to sugar, especially when added to acidic drinks like colas & fruit juices, it's a double whammy then. Can't eat anything with no teeth! Interesting, informative and entertaining post as always Sadia, you never fail to deliver something helpful every time.

the body prefers to burn his own fat if you eat sugar you're literally taking a drug for your brain
and your pancreas start to produce a lot more insulin and your metabolism with grains and sugar stops for about 2 hours.
It's just an industry for making money, nature gives us its natural sugar in fruit,
pasta bread sugar.. are man-made and really bad for your health.
Gluten it's part of our health problems too,
so always try to stay away from sugar and grains(pasta, bread.. )

Love the video! Sugar is so difficult to get around with how easily accessible it now is. It would also be interesting to hear about the effects sugar has on the brain as well as the body. Multiple studies are showing that high sugar intake not only increases your risk for diabetes, but also increases your risk for neurodegenerative disorders such as dementia and Alzheimer’s. A good resource is Dr. David Perlmutter, he is a neurologist and a Fellow of the American College of Nutrition. He has some fantastic insight on the effects of carbs and sugar on the brain.
