Ketogenic Diets, Insulin and the Health Benefits of Losing Weight

Association with obesity
and the pre-diabetic state, associated with elevated
insulin levels, is obviously addressed with
weight loss in general. Ketogenic diet does focus on
sort of resetting the insulin levels, increasing glucagon levels so that
they’re more in balance. It’s not so much that
it’s causing the weight loss, but it’s more of a result
of the weight loss. You can have a reset
of this hormone. There’s just less need for it. And the effect of insulin
obviously on, you know, cholesterol metabolism,
vascular injury, reduction of insulin long term is obviously going to be
beneficial to the patient.
