just about as good a beverage as you will find. Orange juice is considered a raw food beverage. And it is the most consumed raw food beverage
in American. I found some fun facts about orange juice:
Orange juice is the official beverage of Florida. About 90 percent of the Florida orange crop
is used to make orange juice. The top 3 orange juice producers in the world
are Brazil, Florida and Mexico. Fresh raw orange juice vitamin c content is
about 150 mg (1 cup) or 250% RDA Orange Juice hasn’t always been the breakfast
drink it is today. In the mid 1910s there was an overproduction
of oranges in California. The orange growers had no way to preserve
the fruit or any of the juice for longer than a couple of days so they were about to destroy
30% of their trees. However, at the same time, two main innovations
saved the day. One was pasteurization. The other was the national railway system
Now, orange growers could juice their oranges, pasteurize them for longer storage and then
ship the juice to be sold in bigger cities. Thus the mass production and mass marketing
of orange juice began. But, what about orange juice and diabetes? Well OJ has a Glycemic index of 50 and its
Glycemic load is 12. This means it does affect blood sugar quickly. As a matter of fact, you have probably been
told to drink OJ if your blood sugar reading is low to help bring it up. It OJ good for diabetes? It is ok to drink on occasion with a breakfast. A small glass will give you plenty of vitamin
C but it will raise your blood sugar so be aware of that. Keep an eye on your readings and all should
be well. I hope this answered your question is orange
juice good or bad for diabetes. Don’t forget to get your diabetes management
