Healthy Minute: What To Know If Your Doctor Has Suggested Insulin

October 12, 2019

If you get to a point where insulin is suggested
it’s because the pills are no longer effective. You are no longer getting those target numbers
and it’s now time to introduce a different mode of treatment. So often people are resistant
to take insulin feeling like, if I take insulin it means that I’m worse. I’m just not doing well. I have failed there is more that I can do
and maybe perhaps not need insulin. If insulin is initiated early enough in treatment,
then our outcomes are much better. So I would say to anyone who is not getting
target numbers. Their numbers are out of range and a doctor
has suggested insulin, think about it. Think about it, and really it’s probably time
or it would not be suggested to you.

I had an A1c of 9.0 and my doctor suggested Insulin. I went on a low carb way of eating and in3 months my A1c tested at 6.3 without insulin. Now, in 3 months I'll see if I can get it lower.
