After seven years of being married I did not know this about Peter. My lungs are… [coughing] Yeah, ’nuff said. ♬ Don’t you think we’re better together ♬ ♬ Oh Honey ♬ ♬ I think we are ♬ Good morning! Good morning! Fireworks in the background. Happy Tuesday. We are going to go pick up some groceries. Wow, this window is washing out our faces. We’re ghosts! We’re gonna go pick up some groceries that Mary ordered for us and- I wanna warn you. Oh. I didn’t do a very good job. Oh really? No. But you did make dinner yesterday that we haven’t cooked yet- True. So, we have dinner for tonight so. Great. I planned that well. Yeah. Actually, I did. That’s why I didn’t order groceries because I knew we had stuff, but I didn’t know what we had. Hmm. So we have that dinner, and then I think we still have other stuff in the fridge to make. So, what are we picking up? Random snacks? Toaster strudels and bottled water. Awesome. Alright. We will bring you guys along. We got our groceries and now we are actually going by a horse stable because I’m going to ask them, I’m gonna talk to them about the potential of like once it gets warmer out, maybe… trying some horseback riding as an exercise. So we’ll see what happens and I also just talked, I just called the Dexcom support people because yesterday my blood sugar dropped twice and I felt it, but I’d look at my Dexcom and it’s like not telling me that I’m dropping so I was like, I don’t know, and I also got some weird readings like the three question marks and that sort of thing, when I inserted it on Sunday or whatever day, Monday. I don’t remember whatever day it was. So I talked with them and they basically recommended that I just take out this sensor, the wire that’s in me, take that out and put a new one in and try that. So, just part of the medical life phone calls. So you guys know all about that, but anyway… [coughing] That’s what we’re doing, driving in the rain. Yeah. Rainy day. [singing] We’re driving in the rain. Just driving in the rain. All right, so. Peace out. Hey guys, we are home and… we stopped by the horse stable but nobody was there, so Mary called and left a message, so we’ll see what comes of that, but I’m gonna stick the dinner in the oven that Mary had made yesterday. You can watch yesterday’s vlog if you want to see her make it, but she kind of made up this recipe and I think it’s gonna be really good, so just stick it in… and wait in a little bit. Welcome home. ♬ chill music ♬ Okay, don’t mind me. I was just in bed. I do not feel good today. My lungs are… [coughing] That’s… how they are. I’m gonna serve us some dinner. That’s the dinner I made yesterday. So. Okay, bye. [coughing] This looks really good, so let me set you guys down while we try this out. You can sit right there. [Mary] Ow. Oh, sorry. What? That’s good. You like it? Mm-hmm. Yeah, it’s like pot pie with potatoes Yep. It’s delicious. Okay, good. I just learned something. After seven years of being married I did not know this about Peter. That I like celery? He likes the celery. You thought I just tolerated it? Yep. I thought you tolerated it. I don’t- Because, because you tolerate it? I don’t know why I thought that. Hmm, I do like celery. But I made big chunks of celery in this. It’s really good. And he likes it, and I am- That was an amazing dinner. I’m so glad you liked it. I actually put some barbecue sauce on the potato rounds because it kind of made them into…like… Our favorite food. Yeah, potato rounds with bacon and cheese and barbecue sauce. Hey, now that I think about it… I liked the crunch that the breadcrumbs gave. What if we did that on our potato rounds? Mmm… No? [burps] You can’t mess with a good thing. [snorts] Excuse me. I think I am getting a fever so I am gonna go relax for a bit, but Peter should tell you what he accomplished. Yeah, you saw me go down to the basement and work on the table, but I actually after that went outside and worked on finishing the fence gate. Joe and I had started, we built the frame of the fence gate, and then I spray painted it and then the other day I ran out and got like… So we basically made a square, not square, rectangle frame with a beam in the middle. Or actually two beams in the middle so it’s divided in thirds, and then I got metal fencing that I stapled on to that frame and so it made a gate so that we can, because our driveway is open and we have a gate there so that our yard is fully enclosed for Ollie boy to run around. So, it is done, the yard is enclosed, so that was a big success. [Peter] Hey Google, pause. I… Yeah, ’nuff said. Yeah. Mary’s got a fever. Not feeling good. We’re just hanging out, watching baking show and letting her body rest, cuz sometimes your body tells you that’s what you need. [yawn] I wish I could go to sleep at 7:00 p.m. which is now. [Peter] It’s almost 8:00. Wow, even closer to bedtime. Okay, I need to change my Dexcom sensor so stop sensor. There’s that and… Then…oh. So cold. [plastic crinkling] [clicking sound] Alright. [clicking sound] Okay, start next sensor. Start sensor. Cool. Whew. I already did my vest. Pretty much ready for bed. This sensor will be ready in about two hours. It takes about two hours to like start the sensor up. But hopefully this one won’t have any issues like the last one did. That’s technology. It’s really really helpful when it’s working and when it’s not working, it’s useless. So, hopefully we can get this back up and working. I still have a fever, low-grade but enough to make you feel kind of poopy, so I’m just gonna, um…oh, wait… I still have a little bit of vest to do so I will finish that, and then move on with my night. [Mary] Okay, so this is really weird. This is what the [Mary] sensor did when I tried to start up my last one. It says like no reception, so I’m gonna have to call them again. [Mary] I’m gonna have to call Dexcom again, babe, because my receiver is saying that there’s no reception or whatever. Oh wait. No, now, it’s back. Now the pie is back, so that is what it’s supposed to do. [Mary] And then for about two hours, it does that and it fills in. [Mary] That’s weird. See, I don’t know whether I should call ’em or not. [Dexcom support] Right, so the way we’ll do it is basically there’s a soft reset button. [Dexcom support] You can use either the tip of a paperclip or a toothpick to press and hold down there for about three seconds. Okay, thanks. Thanks so much for your help. They said since it is loading now with the little green thing, then just leave it alone, but if it does anything weird again do a reset which there’s a button on the back apparently. So, anyway, I don’t know. It’s odd. Guess what? My temperature is back to normal, just in time to go to sleep. So, that right there, that is chronic illness life. You’ve got a temperature during your best hours of the day, like during the evening you’ve got a fever and then right before you go to sleep it goes away. I’m glad it went away. It would have been so cool if it went away earlier. But I’ll take what I got and I’ve got a normal temperature, so I’ll take it. [Peter] You know what time it is? [Peter] Popcorn time! This is becoming like a nightly routine. [Peter] Sometimes. So that means. [Peter] But she alternates between the kettle corn and the regular popcorn. [Peter] And I saw you ordered more today. I did, but the thing is I am not a microwave popcorn girl. [Peter] I know, this is like totally a new adventure. It used to give me a stomach ache. [Peter] Huh. [laughter] I love you. I love you. [Both] And, as always. We will see you tomorrow. Good night. ♬ And contrary to popular belief, that was not scripted. That was not planned. I was gonna say the same thing. Cuz, it seemed like it was. All right, buddy, say good night to the peeps. [Peter talking as Ollie] Goodnight guys. ♬♬

Oh my goodness, I saw the title of today’s vlog and even though my friend and I are at the doctor waiting for her to come in, it was just too much of a coincidence because my lungs are going through something this week and are angry and junky as well AND her Dexcom has been saying signal loss and random numbers and had to call Dexcom as well. I hope Dexcom is overnighting you another sensor to replace the defective ones.

I need to give Mary a shout out on a idea she had on one of her vlog. She put some mouthwash in an empty syringe for Peter. So just now on our way to church we were deciding what to do about my grandsons antibiotics. We didn't want to take the bottle for fear of leaving it in the refrigerator at church. So God put it into my memory what Mary did and it worked GREAT!!!!

Hey everyone at the Frey Life. Hope you had a good Wednesday. Mary I hope you didn't spike another fever. I will say a few healing prayers for you before I go to sleep in a wee while. I've had a bit of a crummy day today. I've had a fever of 38.2C. So that's making me feel gross. I had to have my Supa Pubic catheter changed and I Hate having it done. But wen the District Nurse went to change it she noticed that I've got and I quote " an icky green gooe" in and around the cath wound site on my abdomen. So she swabbed it and has sent it off for testing cos he thinks I've got MRSA again. So fingers crossed I haven't got MRSA again otherwise it's an admission to hospital for IV 💜🐶🐾🙏🏼🐶

Have been watching you channel for quite some time and just love the joy the two of you share together. You are such a wonderful inventive cook. which leads me to a question – I have noticed that you have a lot of dairy in your diet and dairy is known to cause excessive mucous production in the body. Have you ever pulled dairy out of your diet completely for say a period of 30 days to see what effect it could have on your body? I pulled it out of my diet and was amazed at the benefits. My sinus congestion went away and no more headaches were among the many benefits I experienced. Just curious. 🙂

Mary, I’m SO glad to hear you are thinking about taking up horseback riding! Horseback riding has numerous benefits (not just exercise). I am a certified therapeutic riding instructor, and wanted to suggest that if possible, you take lessons from a therapeutic riding instructor, since they have been trained in accommodating medical devices when riding (like your J tube and your port…they have to be taken into consideration when mounting and dismounting the horse). Direct or private message me if you want more info.

Also, I love your vlogs. I too have an invisible disability, and have been so inspired by you, Peter and Ollie! God bless!

  • Reply Sandi Hester January 25, 2018 at 5:35 pm

Mary, it's pretty common for the transmitter to do that – most of the time it will reset itself and start working again but mine does that all the time. Also, not sure if you know this or not just but those of us in the T1D community usually wear our Dexcom longer than 1 week – I wear mine for 3 weeks straight and with each week it gets more accurate. Just a little tip there.

  • Reply Lady M January 25, 2018 at 8:27 pm

Hi Mary! I'm so excited that you're considering horseback riding as exercise! Quick tip from a former rider: The first few weeks of starting or restarting riding can be pretty hard on your legs. I recommend getting really strong through squats and stretching the big tendons on the inside of your legs as much as you can to reduce soreness. Also look into disabled riding organizations in your area, as they may be better equipped to help you get your start. All the best!

Mary what causes you to have a fever? Is it some infection getting worse? Why does resting help? Is the fever a sign that your body is working too hard on the infection and needs rest? Do your fevers go down with resting?Too many questions I know. I just worry about ya. Hugs!

I work in insurance, in customer service. I had a gentleman call a couple of days ago for his wife about some of her durable medical equipment she has to have. He was trying to explain what it was to me and I finally (politely) interrupted him to ask if he was talking about a Dexcom. He sounded so surprised and happy that I knew what it was he was trying to tell me about. Thank you, Mary, for educating us in these things. :3
